What do you all think of Oil Can Boyd?

I don’t know if you all heard, but Oil Can Boyd talked about a return to baseball at the age of 49, do you all think this is real or just a publicity stunt. I mean, the article mentions he wants to be like Satchel, and Satchel debuted at 42 and pitched into his 50s. If Oil Can can still throw in the 90s, ya never know.

I think it’s for real….and it’s also going to be a publicity stunt at the same time.
Since Bob Stanley did say that Boyd’s fastball was not yet in the 90’s, but he had good tight stuff, it looks like he will get a tryout.
I believe, like a lot of older players, he might be able to pich at ML level. But a long reliever is expected to make 50-60 appearances per year while maintaining a respectable ERA….I can’t see that.
Also it’s hard to see a spot on a 25 man roster for a guy unproven to make multilple appearances.
But he definitely deserves a tryout.

boyd was a great pitcher, still is. with the lack of quality pitching, he could find himself in the major league very soon

It’s a publicity stunt.
But since it’s The Can, well, maybe he doesn’t think so. He’s always been that type.

He really could pitch well for a team. He would be like one of the Red Sox’s low risk high rewards. He probably won’t go to the Sox, but any team could use him.

I understand his old team, the Expos invited him to spring training and will ink him to a AAA contract at Edmonton.
