Is Dusty Baker going to destroy 2 more young arms?

Well in 2003 when Dusty Baker managed the Cubs, he had 2 young arms in Prior and Wood…

Needless to say after that, arm problems happened and up until this year, Wood did nothing and Prior is still injured…

Now in 2007 he has Cueto and Volquez…who are 24 and 22 respectivly…

Do you think he is going to make the same mistake he did in Chicago? I do…I really do.

10+ for best answer
Lol, I love my contacts I really do…7 and 2 so far…

the Lizard doesn’t learn baseball lessons, he will destory the careers of these 2 young arms & if he can manage, he’ll take down Harang (poor dude can’t get any run support) & Arroyo as well.

I sure hope not. Volquez has been doing exceptionally well. Harang pitches tonight and hasn’t done well this year. Cuerto has had problems. I don’t want to blame all of this on Dusty.

  3. CUBS ARE BETTER Says:

Yes I think what ever can go wrong will go wrong with Baker making the moves. I can’t entirely blame Dusty for the injuries to Wood and Prior but he may have had a little to do with it.
He is however not very adroit at managing young players. He has no patients with them and will not let them develop even when his teams are out of the race. If any manager can ruin the confidence of a young player it would be Dusty. Reds fans had better hope Baker decides to retire before Jay Bruce is given his shot to play of he will be ruined too. There is a reason Baker is being paid to not manage the Cubs………. because he miss-manages.

Dusty is one of the worst managers when it comes to dealing with the pitching staff. Chicago knew this when he came over from San Fransisco and Cincinatti should have known it coming in as well. I don’t know why he does it, but he hasn’t learned from previos mistakes and if he hasn’t gotten it through his thick skull by now, he won’t be changing anytime soon. He’s also a terrible small ball manager as well. He doesn’t know how to utilize the bunt to move a runner into scoring position in a tight game. He doesn’t know how or when to send a guy on a steal. Dusty Baker in my eyes is one of the most overrated managers ever to be givin a head coaching job.

Well, you know….I lost all faith in his abilities when the Reds batted out of order yesterday.

Dusty did not blow there arms out
    come on
    they did that thier selfs
Kerry Wood injuring himself at a hot tob?
they obvisoly do take care of them selfs
    Dusty is my fave manager
    imn sticking with him

  7. MONDAYS FRIEND Says:

How did Dusty destroy the arms of Prior and Wood? There are some bodies that are built for the rigors and stress that pitching puts on an arm, and there are some that aren’t. Simple as that. If you can’t handle it physically you aren’t gonna last long, especially at the major league level…

Also, I would take issue with the answerer who says that Harang hasn’t done well. Look at his ERA. He’s pitched well enough to be 5 - 2 instead of his present 2 - 5. There are only one or two starters in the league that’s received less run support than he has. Arroyo, though, has been another story. However, he is now showing signs of coming around after pitching very well in two of his last three starts. This club just needs to score more runs and be consistent in doing so…

And to all you ” Baker bashers ” : Not that I’m a great fan of his, nor do I think he’s the best manager ever, but isn’t he one of the few managers to take the Cubs to the post season since 1945? Yes, I know they didn’t make it to the World Series, but the fact remains that he did far better than nearly all of his predecessors……

  8. The Mick "7" Says:

It wasn’t Baker who destroyed Wood and Prior’s arms. It goes back to their pitching coaches. Both never had good mechanics to begin with. I’ve watched pitchers all my life and can tell you that mechanics, good mechanics is the secret to longevity. Neither Wood nor Prior were ever taught sound fundamental pitching mechanics. This probably goes back to their high school days when some history teacher volunteers to be the baseball coach so he could make a few extra dollars.

Not knowing the talent he had or even the sense to recognize it, he went about his business, not knowing what in the hell he was doing, and taught all bad habits. Wood and Prior are the results of bad coaching.

What has always bothered me is that the major league pitching coaches are not any better. The don’t know what they’re doing either. How they get these jobs is beyond me. Maybe Baker is to blame as well, after all someone on the staff had to see that something was very wrong with their deliveries.

  9. pugie Says:

He can’t keep the line up in order.I doubt his ability to now anything about pitching .He was a former outfielder as a general rule they don’t make very good managers. Also is strictly “by the book”type of a strategist that’s because is very sensitive to media criticism.I know Steve Stone first guess him many times That’s the main reason Stone left the booth.Dusty complained to upper management.Reds fans don’t expect him to turn your team around.I obviously don’t know him But what the local media say about him that he’s to nice to be a leader ,he never wants to be the bad guy. he also batted out of order with the Cubs.
