Do yesterday’s election results show that the winds have changed in a libertarian direction?

http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/016703.html

Voters have rejected 3 government power-grabs by referendum. In Oregon, the voters rejected a Cigarette Tax increase (for the children of course), in traditionally liberal New Jersey they rejected tax subsidies for stem cell research, and in conservative Utah they rejected school vouchers (a scheme that would allow government to take over private schools and turn them into carbon copies of public schools).

These votes are all out of touch with the perceptions of each state, but well-in-line with the observation that Ron Paul does very well except in the tax receiver regions of the midwest and the south (see http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/016685.html ) and are in line with what libertarians advocate. So, does this show that voters have shifted to libertarianism?

Does this mean that Americans are ready to move forward instead of left or right?

Although Ron Paul is NOT a Libertarian, but an actual CONSERVATIVE Republican, yes, I have to agree that people are starting to come out of their slumber and seeing the facts for what they really are!

Jimmy Carter would call it another “malaise”.

I translate this as taxpayers are tired of working for the government from January until May.

I certainly hope so. Libertarian ideas are finally coming to the forefront thanks to Ron Paul, John Stossel, Penn & Teller, Dave Barry and many other people of noteriety who are respected for their intelligece.

I became a Libertarian after the 2004 election because I was fed up with the extremism and corruption of the Democrats and Republicans. Thankfully, I discovered a party that thought the way I did and realized I was always Libertarian without knowing it. I’m sure many otheres are in the same boat - and may not know it.

I sorry but the answer is no. There are millions of Americans who are tired of govts increasing control of our lives, but the majority of Americans are too busy keeping up with the antics of Paris Hilton, Lindsy Lohan, or some other celebrity.

The neo-con Bush administration and the lieberal, activist judges have been usurping the authority of Congress, and therefore, the people, for years, but most Americans remain unaware or just unconcerned about this problem.

This southerner doesn’t appreciate your stereotype or want more military bases here. I am totally against BRAC, but do want agriculture so I don’t get poison food from china. My state would do fine without the feds - we still have manufacturing.

  7. TheDude Says:

we need more libertarian wins in state and federal offices for there to be a swing to the libertarians
